Laurie Gonyea Laurie Gonyea

Laurie is a published knitwear designer and instructor who was taught to knit by her mother when she was six years old. For a long time though, she considered herself a "closet knitter". None of her friends knitted and she felt strange pulling out knitting needles during biology lectures in college. She is thrilled to be able to finally pursue the craft that she has had a lifelong passion for.

Laurie currently conducts workshops on various knitting techniques, as well as teaches individual and group lessons for adults. She also teaches children at Lafayette Elementary in Washington D.C. She and her young students were the focus of a Washington Post article on the resurgence of the popularity of knitting (Home section, 3/28/02). Laurie is also accomplished at crocheting, weaving and sewing. She lives with her husband and two daughters in North West Washington.
